For years ENG truck owners have endured love/hate relationships with on-board generators. While ENG crews like the freedom to operate without shore cords maintenance personnel---as well as those paying the maintenace bills---have been begging for alternatives. Many alternative power sources have been tried and each has limitations. Yet a new under hood generator solution from Dallas-based Mobile Electric Power Solutions gives hope to TEC`s new and existing ENG truck buyers. The system, which includes an under hood alternator unit as well as an interior control module, reduces both the maintenance costs and carbon monoxide risks common with traditional generators. TEC Managing Partner Jack Vines, Jr. says "Many of our customers tell some tragic stories about living with generators through the years. As one customer jokingly says "on my next ENG truck give me whichever generator is the least bad." We have a lot of clients who are asking for the MEPS under hood power solution on new ENG and DSNG trucks. We also have customers who are planning to bring each truck in their fleet to us and have the MEPS system installed and the old generator removed. They are determined to find ways to reduce the generator maintenance costs as well as the newsroom disruptions caused when an ENG truck`s generator is in the shop." In a nutshell, the MEPS system provides power when the vehicle`s engine belt turns the MEPS under hood unit. Most crews don`t mind leaving the vehicle engine running and they are excited to learn that they can use new compact COFDM systems together with MEPS to shoot live video of breaking news events while driving down the street. TEC currently offers the MEPS under hood power solution on a variety of ENG and DSNG vehicle platforms including Chevy Tahoe, Ford E350, and Dodge Sprinter.
